Apart from art. The construction and reception of the -other- from antiquity to the present day.
The aim of the conference is to involve the different areas of research in the History of Art, Archeology, History and Society in order to propose new lines of research on the dynamics of interaction and clash with realities perceived as different, as well. as with the image or definition of “the other”.
Human mobility is a fundamental component of historical development. Migrants act as a cultural link in the exchange of ideas and achievements that shape and reshape cultural identities throughout history. Whether peacefully through trade or the fruit of conflict, human migration has given rise to new inspirations and innovations, while at the same time causing deterioration and destruction.
These days raise, as a starting point, a series of questions: Who is the other? In what contexts do we identify “the other”? How has it been characterized throughout history? Has the formula for its characterization been maintained or has it changed? How to define it, if it does not escape any definition? How to characterize it for what it is and not just for what it is not? How to describe it without superimposing our vision on yours? Combining diachronic and synchronous perspectives, the concept of the knowledge of the other will focus on a typological, chronological, spatial and temporal conception.
